Salmon Fishing
Rising on the south side of Ben More Assynt, the River Oykel is one of Scotland’s premier fly only rivers.
The river is a succession of pools, runs and pots all offering different challenges to the angler but everyone capable of producing catches throughout the season of June to September 30th.
The Oykel Falls situated just above the Oykel Bridge Hotel hold back the spring salmon and it is not until the water temperatures reaches 50F that fish ascend the falls and enter the upper river usually in mid May. The first grilse arrive in mid June with the main runs continuing through July and August dependent on water levels. By the middle of August most of the pools will be holding fish and given good water conditions the angler can expect sport through to the close of the season.
Stalking
Red deer stalking is available for two rifles over one of the finest deer forests in Sutherland. An average of 65 stags are shot each year with a weekly expectation of 6 stags to each rifle. Hind stalking is also available by arrangement from 20 October onwards.
